September 2025 Meeting Minutes

Sausages Galore!: Jim cooked up a fine selection of sausages for the meeting tonight. Besides some store bought sausages, Ben Strong has also provided some tasty offerings courtesy of a day spent filling casings with Andy W. Be sure to help yourself.

Perfect Homebrew Competition: The results are in for the Perfect Homebrewing Competition held last week at the shop. See the full list of winners at the Perfect Homebrew Competition site.

Beers and Bikes 2025 is set for Saturday, September 20, which also happens to be Libertyville’s Oktoberfest in the Mickey Finn’s parking lot. Stops include the Oak Street Taphouse, Tighthead, and Mickey Finn’s. Please sign up at the club website if you haven’t already. This gives us a chance to let the stops know how many people they need to worry about suddenly overloading the serving staff. Please note that we have changed the parking/starting location to the parking garage just across the back alley from Mickey Finn’s at 11:30am. Sign up today!

2025 Legions of Craft Beer Festival: The festival is October 4th from Noon-4:00pm. We have been in contact with Les at the Legion Hall. It looks like all of the festival’s available homebrewer spots are either full or down to the last one or two spots. Feel free to flag me down if you still have an interest in serving your beer at this event.

Group Brew: The club will be brewing its first in a regular series of group brews on Saturday, October 25th. Style to brew is open to suggestions. Sign up here.

Beer of the Quarter: Today we sampled beers from BJCP Category 25: Strong Belgian Ales. These include 25A. Belgian Blond Ale, 25B. Saison, and 25C. Belgian Golden Strong Ale. Congrats to Dave on winning the evening with his Belgian Golden Strong Ale.

Bottle Cap Brew Off: The Bottle Cap Brew Off is a new homebrew competition being put on by the Illiana Beer Rackers Union (IBRU) homebrew club, taking place on Nov 15, 2025 at Off Square Brewing in Crown Point, IN.
