April 2026 Meeting Minutes

Big Brew:

Big Brew is coming up May 2nd . The club will be providing food for the event.
We definitely encourage you to sign up to brew that day if you haven’t already, but all
are welcome to drop by and hang out as well.

Scratch Trip:

Everything is basically ready to go with the Scratch portion of planning.
Technically there is still room to add a few people to the foraging walk day of, but space
is limited. Reach out to Hailey or Dan if you are considering a last minute change in
plans to check out Scratch on May 15.

NUBS/CHAOS collaboration brew:

Eric Franklin of the CHAOS Brew Club reached out to Dan last week about brewing a collaboration beer with CHAOS to be served at their Annual Summer BrewBQ, which typically lands on the third Saturday in August.

Mundelein Craft Beer Festival:

The festival is coming up on June 6. Check with Andy or Edward to
see if spots in Homebrew Alley are still available. NUBS does, in fact, have a club booth
for this year. Currently Aurelio, Mohit, and Dan are signed up to crew the table. We’re all
sharing a 4 tap jockey box at this point, so we still have a spot available if anyone cares
to join us. We can discuss renting the shop’s 7 tap jockey box if there’s a sudden surge
in interest from the club. Andy can say more about the number of free wrist bands and
other goodies available if you decide to lend a hand.

Beers & Bikes:

Beers & Bikes will actually happen twice this year! Our first ride will be June 27, so
mark your calendars.

Beer of the Quarter:

Just a reminder that our next Beer of the Quarter is coming up at
the June meeting. We decided to lean into the Nation’s Semi-quincentennial this year by
making Q2 all American style Ales. These include Blonde Ale and American Pale Ale in
category 18, and American Amber Ale, California Common, and American Brown Ale in
category 19. If you’re leaning towards making a California Common, you might want to
brew that before the weather gets much warmer out on a regular basis.

Terpene Testing

Leah provided nine solutions for smelling and tasting. Five were isolated terpenes commonly found in hops, and the remaining four were blends of terpenes intended to emulate the terpene profiles of four hops cultivars (Citra, Tettnang, EKG, and Motueka). Members were advised to sniff the solutions and to sip small volumes carefully.
