CHAOS Summer BrewBQ Festival
Saturday, August 22, 2:00โ7:00 PM at the CHAOS clubhouse in Chicago (walkable from the Western Ave Metra stop). NUBS members pouring: Jason and Mike, bringing a hazy IPA.
A planned NUBS ร CHAOS collaboration brew for the event fell through due to scheduling conflicts on both sides. NUBS officer Dan Berger had been coordinating with Eric Franklin, CHAOS’s president, but the two were unable to make it work.
Beer of the Quarter โ Q3 2026
BJCP Category 27: Historical Beer. The board encouraged members to dig into historical and pre-BJCP styles broadly โ described as an open-ended, research-friendly category well-suited to experimentation.
Work Shirts
Final pre-order deadline: July 31. Pricing is $50 up to size XL, increasing for larger sizes (per the established $50โ$60 tiered pricing). A member asked whether she’d need to pay the club a fee to have her own merchandise made using the NUBS logo โ there is no fee; members are free to have their own logo merchandise made through their own means.
Off-Flavors / Sensory Training
Leah has determined the venue and the club has the off-flavor kits in hand. Sign up via the website as spots are limited.
Upcoming Events
- Harbor Brewing Beer Garden โ “Park and Brew”: benefiting Canines for Comfort (therapy dog organization), 1:00โ4:00 PM, at Harbor Brewing’s lakefront beer garden. Held the Saturday following the July 16 meeting (July 18).
- Cubs and NUBS: game outing organized by Tony. July 26, 12:30 PM game. Event details/RSVP
- Great Taste of the Midwest: A group of NUBS members plans to attend. Coordination (rallying point, timing) will go out via the club email list closer to the date.
- Fall grape & juice bucket pre-orders: Opening soon โ wine varietal grapes from California, plus juice buckets. A member noted that wine-adjacent beers (e.g., saisons brewed on grape pomace/skins) have placed well in past competitions as an example of what members can do with them.
Closing Remarks
Dan closed with thanks to the board and membership for the past two-year term, and welcomed the incoming board. Members were encouraged to self-organize informal events (the “Cubs and NUBS” outing was cited as an example) without needing board approval โ the club’s two main communication channels remain Facebook and email.
Leah offered her thoughts as the incomming President:
This club is your club. We are here on the board to give you what you need from this club and what you want from this club, and so to that end, I welcome you and to reach out with any thoughts, ideas, likes, dislikes, hesitations, eagerness, etc. Let us know what you need from the club, and we will provide it.
